War on Women contd.

The Senate today passed legislation to prohibit private insurance offered through health insurance exchanges from covering abortion. The vote was 25-9-1.

A family facing the medical disaster described by an Air Force pilot earlier today would have to pay for their abortion, even though the product of medical tragedy. Unless, of course, they had the forethought in planning to have a child that the awful might happen and they bought an abortion rider as an add-on, presuming such a rider actually existed. The bill provides no exception for fetal abnormalities, only rape and incest or to save the life of a mother.

The sponsor of this bill in the Senate is a woman, Republican Cecile Bledsoe. She's a doctor's wife so it's all good. If unspeakably cruel in some applications and a deprivation of women's medical autonomy in all.

PS — House sponsor Butch Wilkins is a Democrat. But this bill wouldn't have passed without universal GOP backing.

Gov. Beebe will sign the bill.
