Two events for your consideration on what's supposed to be a rainy Saturday:
*The Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, which hosts the Hillcrest Farmers Market every Saturday, is having a bake sale to benefit the No Kid Hungry Arkansas fund, 8 a.m. until noon.
*The annual Bean Mountain Farms plant sale is happening outside of Eggshells in the Heights from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. It's a good opportunity to get unusual heirloom stuff like barbeque rosemary and pineapple sage. Fuller description of what to expect on the jump.
What to expect? Tarragon, Arp, Salem, and barbeque rosemary. Other herbs include munstead and hidcote lavender, scarlet pineapple sage, berggarten sage, stevia, golden edge lemon thyme, german thyme, greek oregano, marjoram, dill, cilantro, bronze fennel, german chamomile, flat leaf and curly parsley, french and red veined sorrel, feverfew, five varieties of basils, and pennyroyal. Also four mints—kentucky colonel spearmint,applemint,mojito,and peppermint. Flowers include jasmine scented nicotiana, texas hummingbird sage, lemon gem marigold, Moonflowers, sunrise serenade morning glory, nasturtiums, Malva zebrina, and cranberry hibiscus.
We will have 19 varieties of tomatoes, 11 sweet peppers, 14 hot peppers, lettuces, kales, spinach, eggplants,cucumbers and squashes. . There will be a wide selection of perennial and annual herbs, flowers and a lavish array of beautiful healthy plants. And best of all this mild season has allowed a lot of the early herbs and flowers to grow extra large!
All plants are Certified Naturally Grown and come with free gardening tips.
Please bring shopping baskets and bags if possible; extra paper sacks will be gladly accepted.
