North Little Rock Mayor Joe Smith has announced that interim Police Chief Mike Davis will become the permanent chief July 8. He succeeds Danny Bradley, now chief of staff for the mayor, at the head of the 191-officer department. He's been on the force 27 years.

City news release follows.

Mayor Joe Smith is proud to announce that interim Chief of Police Mike Davis will become the permanent Police Chief of the 191 officer Police Department, effective Monday, July 8th, 2013. Davis is a 27-year veteran of the North Little Rock police department. A reception will be held at 5:00 pm on July 8th in the NLR City Council chambers to officially welcome Chief Davis to his new position. The public is invited to attend.

“Public safety is my number one priority and we thought about bringing in someone from outside the city. But in the end, there’s no one else I would feel as comfortable with than Mike. Chief Davis knows our police department inside and out and is well respected among our officers,” said Mayor Smith. “I have full confidence in his leadership ability and know that the residents of North Little Rock are being well-served with his selection.”

Chief Mike Davis began his career with the North Little Rock Police department in 1986 as a patrol officer and has been steadily promoted ever since. His salary will be $95,194.
“I’m looking forward to this opportunity to continue serving the officers and city that I have the highest respect for,” said Davis on his new position. “The first day I put on the uniform here I never thought I would have the chance to become Chief, but as I continued through my career, I matured, I began to believe I could do this.”
Former Police Chief Danny Bradley now serves as Chief of Staff to Mayor Smith. Bradley said the department is in very good hands with Davis. “Mike knows our department as well as anyone on the force and he’s going to do a great job. He was an immense help to me during my time as Chief and given how respected he is, the NLR Police Department is in very capable hands.”
